New Article Released: Lews Therin Telamon
By Linda
It's been a while since I posted an essay on one of the main characters of the series. Today it's the turn of a character we met briefly before he died, and later returned as a voice in Rand's head: Lews Therin.
Not surprisingly Lews Therin has some real world origins in common with Rand, the obvious one being the Dragon, but also Hercules, Quetzalcoatl and Mithra. But there are important differences too between the two men. After all there is not only three thousand years, but a great cultural gap separating them.
As the leader during a Golden Age, Lews Therin was also based on some great generals of the Ancient Roman Republic. His name also reminds us of another figure who fell from great heights to be forever reviled: Lucifer. And lastly, Lews Therin could be likened to Adam, with Rand as the second Adam, Christ, to hopefully Heal the world of what Lews Therin did.
