The article on possible sources for character names starting with E has been published in the Reference Library. The Arthurian origins of Egwene's and Elayne's names is well known, but Elyas' name is also that of an Arthurian character.
Elaida's name is linked to an Irish legend - one which explains the coded message that Galina sent to Elaida when she captured Rand - and Eamon Valda's name to rather more recent Irish history.
